Good luck with the respray DC, but don't forget to get loads of overspray on tyres, brakes, electrics, unfathomable light switches, dangerously bad welds etc etc...

Repairs are done and I've also slightly altered the bulkhead bonnet shut and i'll be adding thicker D strip in order to get a snugger fit.

Primer is about to be flatted and the first few top coats will go on tonight



It is interesting to note that despite all of the masking I've already got some slight over spray on the wing mirrors, which cheered me up no end

You'd never sell it with overspray! Anyway have you found the spraying easier this time around?

The external pressure regulator/water trap makes for a much nicer finish right out of the gun, but the filling/sanding prep is still time consuming and tedious.

Any pics yet? Or are you doing other mods?

Sorry guys, it is nearly done. The Red is on and i'm just cutting and polishing it in to the existing paint. Unfortunatley my father passed away on Friday so things are up in the air atm. Although i am getting in more garage time when i am home just to "get away from it"!

With that in mind i took the Spyder out for a blast the other night with the paint "as is", as i just needed to escape for a while and i've found that i've now got a sticky throttle cable. (where's the screaming in terror smilie?)

ho humm, another "originial" part that i should have replaced during the build that was waiting for this winters engine rebuild that i'll have to do early!

Body repairs done and i've just come back from my first blat, and long overdue it was!

I've also fitted the new throttle cable and also removed an additional external oil feed that a previous owner had fitted as it was swamping the head in oil and smoking worse than my old nan and that seems to have helped a treat, so happy me this afternoon.

I realised the other day while talking in another thread about seats, that i don't actually have pics of me in the car. So when i came back i got SWMBO to get a quick pic. It should show how someone like me at 6'2" can fit nicely into a Spyder as i think that i fit fine and don't stick out the top too far?



Also while i was posing No2. son wanted in on the action and seeing as it's another good seat/height shot i thought it worth posting



for the more eagle-eyed amongst you, you will spot a vertical grey mark under the drivers wing mirror. That's just muck, as i was eager to just get out while it was dry. i know, bad me, not caring about the details and instead deciding to actually drive and enjoy my car <doh>

Great colour Dave, and it looks good plain. What do people say? The side on shot shows how good the space around the wheels are, also the bonnet gap looks very even! Did you do more work on this.

I met up with the guys from Apple County Kit Car club at the weekend and got lots of positive feedback and lots of jealous comments from 7 replica owners about my "very period" exhaust note! Especially from the bloke in the Chesil speedster who was behind me at one junction and couldn't hear his own (Beetle powered) engine over the noise of my tick-over

ATM i'm getting the Spyder ready for the trek to the Exeter show and then the Classic vehicle restoration show at the Bath & West the weekend after (weather permitting) and I'm currently a bit paranoid about my bonnet gap as I'm sure it's widened a bit although it is still even, so it's staying that way for the time being and the beards can comment on how wide it is as much as they like!!

One thing i have noticed is that my bodywork is ageing and marks, cracks etc. are starting to appear but due to the style of the car they just look..... right!

So i'd say that anyone learning to spray (towed) like i did, that this is a very forgiving car to learn on!

I'm still going to use a paint brush. i've some Ruby Red spray cans made up for the suspension parts and chassis. POR ing this weekend, then red oxide and top coat.

If you are using POR15 the DO NOT get it on your skin. it will not come off.

I was wearing a long sleeved top and had long gloves on when I painted my chassis. All was good until I went back to check and spotted I had left a paint brush on the side which I picked up and put away.

I must then have rubbed my nose and forehead because when I went back indoors my wife laughed and said I looked like Adam Ant with the black stripe across my nose.

She stopped laughing when it still hadn't come off three days later and we were going to a wedding. I ended up shaving my nose and forehead to get the worst off but it was still visible in all the photos

But you'll never go rusty...
