Aah, a bit 550 spyderish from the front, but a bit pigs orphan from the back.

Just noticed the Skoda badge on the front and the year of registration. One of Banham's creations by any chance?

I believe so - but I'm sure someone will confirm, the back end didn't look quite right though.

Given the height of the rear wheel arches it wouldn't take a lot to raise the bonnet / boot lid so it was nearly flush with the arches to fair over the air filter completely and leave enough space to be able to fold a convertible roof into a suitable box or hollow.

The air filter could intake through a grill or an orifice placed elsewhere.

I remember seeing a Skoda based 550 Spyder on Paul Banham's stand at a kit car show about a decade ago, Newark I think. It was a much better effort than that one, especially the back end. As I recall, the only visual detail that let it down was the too small wheels, while it had an excellent RS60 style full height windscreen with a detachable hard top that stowed in its own bay behind the seats. Very clever use of space. I'd have considered one but I've never really liked the 550 shape.

I'd have bought one of his Metro/Rover 100 based Speedsters though - I was planning to go for a 1.5 diesel donor, add a turbo and use it for long distance/high economy touring. He went bust before I could place the order though...

Paul in my opinion is a very clever guy with so many ideas and had various kits on offer. I liked the RS200 and Frogeye Sprite replicas and he also did an XJS update as well. Such a shame finances got the better of him.

..usual problem - under financing of people with great ideas.

Pity so many people prefer a bland Eurobox to the available alternative.

Would love to do a 'Top Gear' type tv spot featuring kit cars.

It would appear that a lot of people are so passionate and heads down to what they are trying to achieve that looking at the financial implications is the last thing on their minds. It is such a shame that so many brilliant ideas and creations never reach fruition because the passion overtakes the finance.

I am sure you are right with the TV idea. So many people are interested even if they would never contemplate a build themselves.Just look at the numbers that go to the shows and festivals etc. Motorsport is an example. A lot spectate but few compete.

I manage the kb limit ok but not sure how to change the physical dimensions...

If you click on the photo's on by blog and open them in a new window, you get the huge picture. That is the link I originally copied over. I then copied over the smaller version that is displayed on the main blog page itself. Not too sure if that'll help you though.
