Thanks everyone, driving her is ,, well just great and the weather at present just fantastic, rides I could sell tickets. The MOT guys where good they used to do free style buggies when they were made in Wellington. Mannings Garage for the MOT and NM Motors (Nick Manning related) whom did my tracking and tightened my front n/s wheel nuts (wot idiot missed that) and genrally checked her over proir to test and in general for peace of mind. On Alexandria Industrial Est theres quiet a few small units for refinishing the likes of wheels and brakets, a car body place, Tools UK nuts bolt and tools and very good on towbars and bits she drew a bit of a crowd, the Body shop quoted me £1000 from how she is now to bright yellow with BRG viper stripes that included materials. Was going to do it myself "I hate filling n sanding" I'm tempted, any way a couple of pics leaving for the MOT.

Looks great even without paint, like a barn find that hasn't been touched for fifty years.

£1,000 for the spray job sounds like good value given the labour intensive nature of it.

Yellow's going to be a great colour, too. What shade do you have in mind? I've always liked Fiat broom yellow as used on assorted Fiat Coupes and Barchettas:



Anyway, great job getting it through the mot and good luck with the finishing touches.

That Fiat yellow is good the picture doesn't do it justice it's a colour thats on my list..PAT

Amen to that Pat, it's a much richer colour in the metal and would look great on the spyder imho.

pat well done with the mot.one less worry, did u do anything with your rear wheel archs. underneath ??? like boxing in,,,,,oh and if i pop down next weekend for a cuppa how a about a ride.....only kidding enjoy the sun

Under the rear and front I haven't done inner arches. Mulberry of coarse com on down and have a spin (Very likely the back being so light) it's just great fun....

I'm very surprised that she runs so well after a few local shake down runs would like to try a bit of a longer run but it seems the weathers done for that, the donar car was last on the road in1986. Engine has new timing chain and decoke oil and plugs also needed a fuel pump and control box. After the Exeter show she'll be getting painted, Fiat broom yellow with BRG viper stripes. I'm also going to get her weighed she must be light it's so easy to push about in the garage, mmm no rain forcast smile time today! PAT

pat if you need a longer run out, you could allways drive to SUNNY barnstaple, i would certainly have cup of tea waiting for u..

i went through Cullompton last weekend on the way to Lyme Regis with the family, i didn't know you were so close to me!

Once i've got an MOT i'll have to look into the interesting (non-motorway) ways to get to you.

I think a SW beach run is certainly on the cards for next year, we can all meet up at somewhere between us like Bridport?

Dave it looks like a good show with a classics car park I've got to check callout rota as I should be back at work soon but I do fancy a trip there be nice to get a Sammio rep there. If it's OK with Gary I'll make up a show card to leave on the car with contact details.

Hi Pat, it was nice to meet up at Exeter. Seeing skippy "in the flesh" has given me a bit of a kick up the @rse to get mine finished for the Bath & West show in 2 weeks and i might also nick a few of your ideas for good measure!

Dave, Trevor and Mulberry (aka Gary n Mel) and everyone else it was great to meet you all, all that talking and walking the day went very quickly and loads of ideas from all over I was one of the last to leave, one thing I've got to do is the seats a higher and stiffer back, Mike had an idea which I take forward I'm checking with him again tomorrow and I'll let everyone know when I get a result, Cheers... improvements

Seats, the backs are to lowso I've got this pair from Gary a new line, I'll be cutting down the height of the backs to keep them in the car and add a bit of foam and vinyl to finish. Finish the headrest.


Flush the engine a hose blew off on they way home things were a bit sludgey the running after 25 years I suspose flush and anti freeze ordered.

Reposistion the mirrors the bullet ones useless where they are.

Handbrake lever mods to make more user friendly (hill starts).

Not so important, a locking glove box ( ammo box, utillytarain?), a socket phone charger etc, and a tacho.

Then get some paint on her....
I'll say the seats came from a skip, Gary and Mike been so busy they can't find the broom or any thing else....PAT

Are you going to cut the seat backs across under the shoulder wings to leave a basic bucket seat?

Or are you going for a vintage/modern fusion look with scooby style rally seats?

Did you say Gary made them: if so, where the bloody hell does he find the time?

This is a similar approach to when i was considering using some cut down Lamborghini Countach seats. Well... Countach kit car seat shells, as they are quite slim and "sort of period" and i could have had a pair sort-of cheaply

I think they'll be ideal. Will you be getting them covered in Orange vinyl for traditions sake?
