Ok so sent V5 off to DVLA to register as a Mazda 250 GTO Spyder in Blue, as that is the predominant colour now, when my car was imported in 1998 from Japan it was a Eunos Roadster in Green but was registered as a Mazda MX5, the DVLA have sent me a new V5 same as the old one (in white as I was driving it in gel coat) and contact details for Mazda UK stating they can not change the model description unless the manufacturer agrees saying I need to get them to confirm this in witting quoting the DVLA/SMMT make and model codes. As far as I know Mazda UK are one of the few manufactures not to recognise grey imports, that was a while ago and related to an imported Mazda RX 8. No Idea what to do now as I don't think Mazda UK will help as they did not even build the car in the first place it was a branch of Mazda JP as Eunos done for marketing reasons as it sounded more European.
It might be worth contacting DVLA by phone and ask them what they want. I hope this isn't another rule or regulation being put into place. The changes to the MOT / Tax next year for older cars will be a problem for some I know. Maybe the person inputting your revised V5 info wasn't familiar with re body cars / V5 changes.
On another vehicle they sent me a Built up vehicle report V627/1 to fill out that is not required there were no changes, they don't know anything about cars.
Phoned Mazda UK they said put it in an e mail.
Phoned DVLA they are insisting on an IVA test as the vehicle has more than two component parts explained their rules to them lady was adamant and said she had worked in that department for 20 years she is sending me a vehicle built up report and will require all receipts. Asked if rules had changed she said no explained that lots of others had registered similar cars without an IVA she said could not have done.
Its not structural and is just a matt finish on the surface so does not present a risk to pedestrians, most old transits have no front wheel arches left due to rust they pass mot with a bit of duct tape covering the holes.

However you never know...... A car restorer was telling me last week about an MGB he rebuilt for a customer with all new/restored to gleaming parts. Went for its MOT recently (a year on) and it had a couple of stone chips on the rear springs which had gone rusty, so got an advisory (serious rust to suspension parts). I kid ye not.
True, MOT can be down to interpretation of rules I once had an old Land Rover fail because the rear axel webbing check straps had rotted away, as they all do, he was adamant its was part of the suspension and needed replacing, took it to another garage and it flew through not so easy these days as its all on computer.
Tony , all the info DVLA are giving you is totally wrong ...as you know . You need to appeal it , it's tricky with DVLA as they rarely admit they are wrong . I have had an apology once in about 30 cockups ...They even changed their legislation once to counter a contradiction in an application of mine when I got A.C.E. involved ...

The lady you spoke to is definitely wrong , clearly doesn't understand the 'glue-on' technique and is applying standard kit rebuild regulations . ..
Bit the bullet and bought a hardtop £300 and it was local, off an 03 MK2.5 Mx 5, fits fine with adjustment but heated screen does not plug straight in found a solution but was expensive after research my car a 93 Mk 1 Eunos has the wiring in place bought a relay for £6.50 (plugs in near battery in boot fuses in place as it had an electric areal) dash switch £40 (ouch!) but will plug straight in just need to rewire the top to the car as plugs are different.
In the mean time changed the Nardi wheel centre for one from these guys [url]www.bellavolante.co.uk[/url] fitted with a bit of fettling also Toyota key of ebay cut to fit for £2 he had to cut it backwards as its slightly shorter than the Mazda blank, works fine though.
I've now got a choice of grills, and for those of us on a low budget I have found black plastic mesh used on two of these grills, I have stainless mesh but I don't think it will look right on the rear vents, so I will use this. The mesh is lightweight its called gutter mesh and its £1 a roll at Poundland of all places, looks as good as ally mesh but will not corode.
