Correct about the reg, I was just seeing if my "blag" would work for Goodwood Revival in a couple of weeks time. A couple of bits of black tape should do the trick!!

We left for Donington at 4.30, but due to badly balanced wheels limiting speed and a puncture we didn't reach our hotel in Derby until 10.59pm, just in time for last orders, luckily.

That is one stunning rear!

Chris, just a thought on the window...
I know the split side window is retro, but its also difficult to make,
difficult to seal, and barely opens...
How about if you had a front quaterlight, and then a one piece window,
then the front and rear of the glass / lexan would be parralell with each other....(if you get me so far..) then the window could go all the way down.
But instead of any complicated winding mechanism, have a third runner in
the centre, and a big knurled knob. Slacken the knob, pull the window up / down / anywhere, tighten the knob. I'm sure its been done before, but its a dead simple way of having an opening window...
And then of course you could have the top of the frame any shape you want.....Mmmm...a nice curve......!
I hope you follow my crazy explanation, it works in my head....

The car should fit right in at Goodwood.

saw this today driving through Poole , looked pretty impressive .

I think People are getting carried away with the desire to 'replicate' rather than 'tributize' .Yes the window lines different , but the cockpit position and length of bonnet is too.None of this detracts from the fact its a very good looking 'tribute' to the car it aspires to be .The Z3 base is a perfect choice for this car , it deserves to sell well..

Amen to that EP, it's a stunning looking car in its own right.

For my part, I'd like to see the side window line changed slightly if that's practicable. It's one of the defining features that makes the original so striking and that little detail would make the car as it stands look perfect to me.

I appreciate that almost none of the Tribute swb dimensions actually match an original (but do two originals match each other?), and it looks none the worse for that, so it's the little details that trick the eye into seeing it as being more than the sum of its parts.

Having said all that, if the side windows remain as they are I'll still be building one.

I agree with Mr Towed on the side window issue, that very slight " curve" on the top edge would make an absolute world of difference,
but as Mr T said, it may be too difficult to alter at this stage.

T, you'll have to do a 'Sammio' on it... cut it up.

From talking to Chris and Dan at Donington it won't be their panels that need cutting up, but the donor Z3 needs some, ahem, adjustment with a lump hammer to squeeze it into its party frock.

Still can't decide what colour it'll be when I finally get the funds together though...

Yep, you can tell it's his because the luggage rack's on the wrong way round...

Mister Towed having looked at your previous work a SWB built by you would be something to look forward to , i think i have just seen the colour for my car , thanks Geoff .
