Hi,

Hello Will - welcome to the forum. I also have problems with the chassis spring seat positions. When I discussed it with Marlin when I discovered it some time ago they weren't very helpful... I would be intersted to know what they did for you to resolve the problem.

Kind regards

Hi Will, mine had that too. Marlin were not to helpful either in my case. I'd quite like to know what they did too :)

Hi,

Basically it was not possible to mount the spring seat onto the threaded stub welded to the chassis. (I have tried to load the pictures, even when cropped they were several hundred bytes to big). Anyway I was pointed here - madaboutout-etc..

I then sent them pictures and got them to look at them, they then agreed there was a fault and would send a fix, involve cutting the old thread stub off and welding the fix on. Not being a welder this was a major problem they did make another suggestion which also wasn't practical. Anyway I waited to see if the fix arrived and if I could do anything with it, it didn't arrive.

After a several weeks I contacted them again asking for a new chassis as it was not usable, after a little discussion I offered a compromise which was for them to come out and fix it when they came out this way for a show (Donnigton). They did and I am pleased with it, I got the solution I want. The spring seat are now fitted and up perfectly.

Hi Will
Thanks for the info. I shall now try and re-negotiate a simlar fix with Marlin. My spring mounts don't sound quite as bad as yours were. I am able to fit the spring seats but the bump stops dont line up. I would be intersted to see your pictures though. Any chance you can email them to me? martinclan@tiscali.co.uk

Cheers

Hello,

I'm not sure if I qualify or not but I'm building a BMW engined Cabrio. So not exactly a Sportster but at least its a Marlin with a BMW engine !

I bought a part built kit earlier this year and I'm slowly re-building and converting it from the Ford Pinto to the BMW engine (2.5l M20). If anyones interested I've put some photos of the build so far on Flickr:

Have I missed anyone? (Apologies for any errors)

After another whole year of kitcar shows, do we have any new builders out there who have taken the plunge and placed an order or maybe just starting to strip their donor?

Please update the list above or add your name to the list..........

Do I still count as a builder even though someone else is doing it for me?

And someone on another thread commented that they weren';t trying to think of the overall cost - I decided that I don't want to know cos mines gotta be silly money now I'm paying for the build!

Welcome to the list of active builders, Rob.

Sorry to dissappoint but I think you are number 12, but i'm sure you can by No. 13 if you really want to! :)

Number 12 it is then.

The bodys on, floors in and off the stands.
Waiting for prop and interior to arrive.
I've had the car running briefly, but still need rad hoses and exhaust.

Wow, you've had the engine running without rad hoses or exhaust, that's brave!

How did you get on with fitting the body?
Any tips, as I am just starting this stage.

Do you have any pictures you could post for us all to see?

thanks

Peter (no.3)

(Hey, if we ever all get together we should have racing numbers made up:D )

Number 13?

Checking in as a new builder - Am I number 13?? Don't mind if I am - reckon it's lucky for some! Sportster based on 325i E30. Bought as a unfinished project from someone else, who gave up on it. In fact they hadn't really started and what they had done I took apart and started again. Getting masses of help from Terry - a brilliant mechanic who specialises in classic cars and helps me out because he's really keen and because he likes to laugh at my desperate efforts! Actually he does most of the work and I pass him things, order parts and pay the bills! (well I do a bit more that that, but you know what I mean)!
Also many thanks to Patrick who took a lot of time the other day to show me his brilliant car - spurred me on and made me realise what could be done. Thanks Patrick!

Any other secret builders want to own up and have their names added to the roll call?
