Had a good day today, welded in the pan, fixed the jacking point and painted the pans.

Got the brake backing plates out of the E-Tub & hit them with some etch primer.
Ready to eat somebody!!!
Turned the pan over and cleaned up the underside.
Wonder how the stone-chip paint will hold-up against hailstones ??!!??

Amazing what some paint does to transform a project.

Installed the rebuilt pedal assembly, what a fiddly job that was!!!

Quick mock-up for the front friction shocks.
Ignore the: crusty torsion arms & broken ball joint!
Spray can lid will be replaced by 50mm round stock welded to the beam stiffener plate.
Spring on the outside is to maintain tension on the arm.
I'll use 10mm ally plate for the arms.
Not sure if I should go inside or outside of the beam.

Liking the friction shock idea really leans up the beam was this on the original car was Roth’s idea ?

No, the original car didn't run any shocks.
But interestingly did use one of the beetle torsion bars/beams.
I want my version to be street legal and within the DLA 8 Points Rules.

Still messing with the friction shocks.
Wasn't sure how the 10mm ally would 'bend' but came out ok.
Think I will change to 6mm as the 10mm looks too thick.
The springs just create the 'link' to the arm.
Currently using a couple bits of cardboard, just foe size, but have an old leather briefcase to cut up.

Made a start on shaping the body today.
Vermiculite & plaster in a 70/30 mix.

Where are you based?
As I have a number of large foam insulation panels you are welcome to have FOC.
As they might help bulk out the main shape before you fine tune the details.
This is just a small piece I used to make my bonnet bulge.

Yes, actually have two bubbles , a clear on and a fluorescent yellow one!!!

Plan on cutting the clear one down like this.
That way it will be 100% road legal & not require wipers.
The other will be 'occasional' use!

Well that's about half a bag of plaster and around 15 litres of vermiculite so far.

Has been awhile since I posted, but here we go.
3 layers of glass, formed up some of the internal framework, constructed the hinge/lifting bracket.

Just about to make a start on the steering, but in a bit of a quandary.
Do you think I could use the original VW Beetle steering box, re-positioned in the centre, although this will require some minor cutting of the floor pan.
Therefore giving me 2 points for keeping the steering.
Would the 'very minor' trimming of the floor pan really be noticed??

Top is all sorted and working.
Took the body off last night to install the steering, think I'm going with the original VW steering box, moved to the central location.

Starting to think about seating now.
Initially tried a single 200N linear actuator, just about raised the top, but the motor wouldn't hold it there and sort of 'back wound' and sunk miserably back down!!
So have now gone with two 1500N actuators!!!!
