I had the same issue with solenoids. They weren't up to the job, even the bigger ones. I have then on the shelf in the garage waiting for some other use.

I got mine working but they dont last long. The strength it takes to open the z3 handle is a lot in comparison to other cars ive installed them in. I had an auto electrician sort my windows out so when i unlock the car the windows go down and when i lock the car the windows go up. This is using the bmw central locking key. He only charged me €40

If I was doing a Kobra that would be a great option as IMHO the Z3 handles do nothing for the finished look.
Unfortunately the SWB has sliding windows so I'm guessing its door handles or solenoids?

I think solenoids are a no go in my opinion. Ive tried with all sorts and they all fail in the end!

Door handles is your option I think. Chris managed to get some Fiat Barchetta ones working in mine and they as nice an delicate. Like this


And there are various Alfa Romeo door handles that are chrome finished and should be made to work.

Door cut open triumph 2000 rear door handle - brand new old stock from dimmer bros, just needs longer 10/32 unf bolt as plunger the hole cut in the door skin will have a plate screwed over it using self tappers, even though the BMW handle and extension can be removed from inside I may need to adjust something, the black fiberglass door skin will be bolted and stuck on with stixall silicon stuff

Would you mind letting me know where did you get your spinners from and did they come with the 2 hole fixing on the rear, as I can see in your picture? you had mentioned a central fixing in a previous post.

Hi spinners can be bought from Europa spares, chrome abs spinners set of 4 they come with a 2 hole screw cap fitting for attaching to the wheel



Didn't get much done this week end as I've been chopping the boot lid about, to mount a chrome number plate light plinth

However I did fit one of the side repeaters

The repeaters look great I have the same/similar ones from OKP.de? They cost quite a bit but worth it for the look.

BTW - Where did you get your number plate sorround from on the rear? its 11" x 8"

Type in abs chrome in the search on the Europa spares web site it should work

Rear number plate surround is off an Alfa not sure which one size 11 x 8

Looking nice, especially the number plate lamp and rear boot hinges. lots of chromy bits. Are the hinges Triumph spitfires? Were they easy enough to align before drilling into place, any chance of a close up picture 'side on please' when you get the chance. Thanks.

I love the Mini fuel cap idea Bill, I had looked at them but never found a cheap one ( I am a skinflint!).

Which boot hinges did you decide on in the end? Morris 1000?

Your grille will be ready this week.

The hinges are Morris minor boot they need some slight bulges to be put in the boot lid to fit the curve but work well

I'm going to try and fit the mini cooper cap over the z3 fuel cap, the mini mechanism doesn't fit very well and if I sacrifice the BMW wing panel around the filler cap and bond it inside the swb body I can keep the remote lock

Its starting to come together now

I'm going to lose the rear aluminium bumper strengthening panel and extend the tubes to mount the body at the rear. I should also be able to fit a bumper or quarter bumpers

I had to move the car to cut the grass / weeds







Now to do the passenger door

Changed the triumph 2000 door handles to herald / finesse, they are bigger and look more like they belong. Quite a lot of work to recess but I still have the BMW handles and drivers lock





Messing with the grille, its now fitted, air con fan still in place, just the mesh removed, power steering pipes slight mod - will probably re route later

Good progress this week end, also took off the chocolate Ta techniks rear springs and put the originals back on

regarding the grille....
I am pretty sure that it needs to be fitted the other way around....
The upright slats are fitted to the top beam....all is held together by the 2 ali strips, so you will not loose it but still....

Vertical slats can't fall out as they are held against fiberglass surround and would have to come forward

Horizontal slats are held in by two vertical strips

I have fixed the horizontal location bar to the lower edge because I wanted to keep the lower part of the grille surround straight and have some extra strength where the grille is close to the air con fan
