G-46 on the road!!!!

13 Jun 2013, 8:22pm
Main electrics done and dash fitted.
All lights installed and now working.
Just need to fit the seats and seat belts, bleed the systems, see how the engine runs then book it in for the MOT:pray2: :pray2:

Good luck. I'm hoping to be at the same stage within a week so I know how you feel...:faint2:

Done PM sent

Sorry it's just not happening.
I finished the electric and the bits and bobs.
Only needed to bleed the brakes, bleed the clutch and fire her up! As these were rebuild by WCA not a problem!!!!

Started to bleed the brakes only to find the rear hubs were empty, no shoes, no ajusters, no springs, brake fluid every where:rant: Fortunatly I had a rebuild axle which I could strip-out, problem sorted:icon_mrgreen:

Then tried to bleed the clutch!, the slave cylinder looked to be the original 1970 unit that had been left in a bucket of sea water!!! Drove to Reading to get a new one, took a few hour to remove the old unit and fit the new one, then found out the flexi hose had perished internally. Made up a hose from a flexi brake pipe only to find the clutch itself is sized solid.
One very long day wasted. :eusa_wall:

At this point I gave up, reached for the cider and started to think about what problems await me when I try and run the engine:icon_exclaim:

Enjoy the Cider Mike. You're still whizzing away quicker than most and will still have the first G46 on the road

Mike - I don't know about a bucket of sea water, but it is fair to say that the original donor was "unloved"...

But as AndyP57 said, you are making progress towards having the first G46 on the road.

Good luck, Paul. :)

No rear brakes? No problem, who wants to stop anyway?

I just got the weekend wrong :lie:
Hopefully WCA will post the proof later.

I got 9 corrupt emails from Mike, I thought his email account had been hacked.

G46 MOT!?!?!?!

The guy is amazing. The only email I could open is below:

Sorry nick forgot to point out the “seat Belt” bonnet stay!!!! rolls in when you close the bonnet and rolls out when you open the bonnet!!!
Regards
Mike

Got to want until Monday to visit DVLA and tax it, (free):heh:
Got a few "teething" problems to sort out as well.
I'll should be able to sort it for this coming weekend and try and made Chris's BBQ, if I'm allowed:twitch:

Well done.
You have made history by getting the first one on the road.
I saw the red one in the flesh and was amazed by its size and presence. It will be nice to see yours progress now. Any ideas on finish colour etc.??

Congratulations.

I take it there was no problems with keeping the car's make as Reliant?
( As I am sure some people had an issue trying to keep Triumph on their Spyders)

Hope you can get a few more photos up.

Enjoy, Paul. :)

Well done indeed, you've made Sammio history.

Will you be painting it any time soon and what colour will you be going for?

I do like those tail pipes inset under the rear valance, btw, nice.

Thank for the kind words,
I'll be at DVLA in the morning getting a tax disc and booking it in for a VIC. I'll change the name then. What you see is what I asked the MOT guy to put on the ticket, or should I say PASS TICKET:peace:

Details of the photos WCA posted.
The first two are the standard Ford air filter with the middle cut out, the original filter is then sandwiched between the cut outs. Much cheaper than the K&N type and the engine runs better:wink:
The bonnet strap is a seat belt the locking gear removed leaving just the spring, wind out when you open the bonnet, winds in when you shut the bonnet, it works!!

Had lots of problem choosing the rear lights. I'd see a set on the web, buy them, only to find they looked s**t. What I finally fitted is the cheapest Land rover S11 lights and indicators less than a tenner for the set!, I think they look really "period"

I am leaning towards SILVER with a merc badge on the bonnet:eusa_angel: but BRG may-be????

I think silver with the three pointed star would work really well. To me the G46 always had the look of the 300 SLR Mercedes about it.

Mind you, I kinda like silver...

Just what I thought but "other people" think sliver is to "week" they are saying BRG or RR:doubt:
