Yep, the cherry bomb, first heard one when I was 17 a mate fitted one to his Viva HB with14" wheels on the back (those were the days Saturday night crusing Charles st Leicester) never thought much since but they were on sale at stoneleigh at a discount, The lights are cheap landrover replacments off Ebay 4orange 2white 2 stop/tail £20ish no lamps but my donar heralds worked...PAT
Hi, all well what a difference in brokers, I've tried online/comparison sites and trawled the magazines and ended up with a list of 26. Varying between £90 and £260, thats for a 54 year old living in Devon and 3 points for my Sammio baesd on a 1296 standard Herald and not using any NCB. Fully comp with legal cover. It seems that there are two under righters! Highway (LV) £50xs and KGM £100xs and a couple of others that were nowhere near. All are running an "agreed value" thing you'll need colour photos and receipts I said £3K and less than 4000 miles a year.
The TV comparison sites a waste of time for kit cars give them a pre 1972 VRM and they are totally stuck. Online sites did get back www.quoterack.co.uk and www.quotezone.co.uk, with Tescocompare saying try Sureterm direct or Performance direct.
TR Youngs 01206 821330 (via quoterack.co.uk) gave the cheapest quote, followed by,
A Plan ins 01635 874646 (Chris Clancy the man to speak to, a car fan not a call centre operator). Both the above less than £100.
The main players as it were A Flux, Norton and alike add a further £30ish.
Peter James and Blackford Bloor both quoting KGM Just under £105.
As regards service the cheapest two also gave best service over the phone the worst Frank Pickles never did get back 5 calls over 4 days same for Suretermdirect did get a quote on call 6 with Highway at £101 but wanted to know everything as did Graham Sykes (wasn't wearing any that day). I'll be going with A Plan Ins me thinks you can meet them as they attend classic car meets and races (Castle Combe 10/09/11 the next jolly for them).
I could write loads more but I've gone on enough, just one more thing the most played muzak whilst on hold Vivaldi's four seasons....PAT
Had a little session in the garage the weekend, done the gap along the bonnet edge. First fitted 8 self tappers used to adjust the height along the edge allowing for a rubber edge (I'm using over centre lockable latches to pull the bonnet down) the lip depth was filled between the screws and flatted back then with the bonnet down the edge of which having several layers of shine brown parcel tape filler was applied to the body follwing the curves and up to the bonnet. After drying out lifted bonnet parcel tape lifting away and not to much sanding I have a nice even gap job done
Hi
Ti's looking good, did you trim the trailing edge of your bonnet to get a true line to follow, mine is way out and rough and think this will be the way to go?
Cheers Psycho pops
Out of interest, what header bottle have you got there? It looks very much the same as the Renault Megane one that i picked up the weekend!
If you can share how you've got it plumbed in it would be appreciated as i think that you've done it the same way as i am planning on, just your pipes are the other way around to what i was expecting. Although i admit i haven't checked the water flow direction yet!
I did clean up the bonnet edge to give a striaghter line. It is a renault header tank (£10 brand new of ebay) but I've got a rover 414 radiator when I first put water in the herald item leaked like a seive, 414 unit came with electric fan the whole kit from the breakers. I put an engine flush in the water system as she has been off the road since 1986 and noticed things a bit sludgey then ran her for agood while got it very hot and pulled a hose, cleared the system but turned my nice new bottle brown...PAT
Rolled skippy out to take to the MOT man a walk round no lights on the back or fuel gauge and a slight water leak, everything was fine monday, traced to an (earth/return) neutral fault under the dash done, water leak by header tank hose clip to tight right by a bend cutting into the pipe will sort when shes back, missed my slot so left skippy at the garage head light and tracking adjustment needed hopefully will be done today....PAT
We are having a scorcher, the garage is 0.7 mile away I clocked 5.2 "I had to bed the brakes in officer" it's run into a second day, I'm worried Skippy has never been away overnight before.
The drive to the MOT was great fun, very light on the backend, tail happy wheel spinning and smokey rubber on tight roound abouts "lively" and I got flies in my teeth silly grin, this is with a 1296 Herald engine and with 80mm of lowering of standard suspension the ride was quite firm enough and the steering very quick. You boys with six cylinders take care. This waiting is a killer.......PAT
OH Bum, "failed" half a dozen little bits retest tomorrow early enough to get to DVLA to tax her. Needs to be DVLA to get the historic bit on the V5 and no fee.....PAT
I thought any old post office that does tax disks can issue a historic one - certainly the way it used to be? (It just says historic in type, rather than PLG)
Unfortunaly my V5 states PLG I think it has to be changed think I'll give them a ring in the morning, it something mentioned when VOSA did the make and model inspection...PAT
Trevor, my V5 doesn't mention Historic Vehicle so I'll phone in a few hours time, it would be easier at a PO as I've got to see the quack later to check me over after me ticker problems, I'm sure it's improved after my little drive well I'm still grinning. All happens on the same day I've been doing bugger all for weeks just a little bit when up to it,.......PAT
Skippy passed her MOT And I did have to go to DVLA to get the V5c updated to historic to get the nil bit on the fee....Pat
Seems like it's going to be a nice weekend.....
