True, they could have reverted to under-slung systems, but if motorcycles can have exposed exhaust systems, why not cars? As soon as the regulation was spotted, out Technical Editor, Nigel Dean, who has been consulted on many aspects of the proposed regulations, got on to his contact in the Government policy department and put the case for the manufacturers and the response has been 100% successful
in that the regulation has been completely removed from the new testing regime.
In truth, the intention was to ensure full protection for the catalyst, which runs extremely hot, but the wording of the section rather changed the meaning. However, Its all been sorted out and side exhausts are unaffected by the new regulations due to come into force in April this year.
It's good to know that we do have influence and can present a good for the industry that will be listened to and sensibly considered.

But it looks as if I wont need to put an interim system on to get the car through BIVA.
There's a few cars on a YouTube with that engine - now that would be an engine conversion!
