WCA - Build thread 3

Not true!
Today you will mostly be wasting time telling us your sanding! get on with it :-)

Most of the main panels are now complete. The home made ramps make it easier to get to the low bits

Side panel and sill to do on this side

And then all that is left is the fiddly bits like inside the vents and inside the headlamp bowls.

Plus of course filling the low spots and sanding that back down.

Plus of course going over it again with wet'n'dry where ever I sport and flaws when I wash it down.

Plus of course the metal doors and boot that I am leaving until just before the paint shop as they rust when exposed.

plus of course...

Why not pop it in the "what would you like Chris to build" thread. Doesn't mean he's going to build it lol.
I can't wait to see what you have in mind. AM Lagonda, Austin Princess, TR7?

do you want to go bare metal. .?? Just down to the primer will suffice ,paint shop won't have to bother with etch primer then

Still sanding - who asked for those stupid funny shaped vents and while we are at it, how do you sand headlight bowls?
25 Mar 2014, 9:52am
The more I sand the more I like the idea of black.

Just looked at Dave Lowes MX250 and that works in black.

Can't remember who said it but it has stuck in my memory
Person A : "Red cars are faster"
Cool bloke : "No, black cars are faster, red cars crash"

Black or red, either colour looks good on it.

If you have trouble deciding, have you thought of PlastiDipping the car ?

Spray it with black PlastiDip and if you are not certain, re-PlastiDip it in red.
If you don“t like any of them peel the dips off and you still have your original bodywork underneath in perfect condition.

Its not too expensive and you can DIY in a couple of hours at home.

I have tried photoshop - well similar - and it doesn't let me walk around and squint from funny angles enough.

Plastidip seems like it might be worth a look although I think I might as well just bite the bullet and go with ...

black!
no! barchetta rossa!
no! black
No! the G46 looked grea in dark blue
No! Red
No! ...

There are only a few rules in life..

We all know the yellow snow one,
Mercedes should be silver,
Hearses should be black,
Land rovers and old jags should be green,
MGB's should be....scrapped
2 seater sports cars should be red.

Don't challenge the rightful order of the universe, you never know what might happen.

Fuel Cap

Hello All,

Could i please ask for some info on the fuel cap?

Is the original locking cap accesible and usable?

Many thanks in advance,

Lumpy.

Fuel cap - just pop open the big chrome filler and the original filler and cap are right where the always were, completely unchanged.

If you look on the last picture you can see the access hole

Many thanks WCA,

It looks great, I was just looking through some builds for some ideas for the Kobra project.
Would you mind letting me know the model number and where you purchased it from please?

Cheers,

Lumpy.

It was MrsWCA who finally swung the vote to black.

We were talking colour and I was showing her various pictures in Shades of red when she said "the red is okay but your cars are black, all your cars that are special are always black"

I hadn't really noticed but she is right so black it will be.

The remaining question is the wheels - powder coat black or silver or black with silver rim?
5 Apr 2014, 11:14am
Black on black not good ....now chrome powder coated wheels against the black...that's a difference story
5 Apr 2014, 11:19am
But black wheels with a sliver rim may lift it enough

5 Apr 2014, 4:36pm
Good pictures to show the effect.

Black with silver rims is winning at the moment as they are easier to keep looking clean.

I do have two set of wheels so maybe the other set could be silver...

My first set of wheels were black with silver rims. I did like them , in fact may paint my new set black too .
