Question. new braking system, do you use Dot4 or Dot5?

This is a question I was also going to ask, I have purchased some Silicon fluid for my brake system, is this recommended or should I use DOT4 or DOT5, all my components are new. Advice please.

From all I've read, as long as you have either a new system end to end or completely flushed and blown an original part of the system you should be completely fine with DOT5. Be aware though that it will find places to seep and leak that DOT4 doesn't. Plenty of folk have converted without issue and although some have reported slightly softer pedal feel, it doesn't get into the worrying category. The fluid itself is a safer, less corrosive and non-hygroscopic oil so spontaneous bubbles and softness should be negated. My own thought would be to go for it.

Just to clarify - DOT 5 is silicon.

DOT 3, DOT 4, Super DOT 4 & (confusingly) DOT 5.1 are poly glycol based.

How about these for the bonnet?

What are they? Speaker covers?

They are big... they came up on ebay, they look like they would have been used on a holley carb. I wll cut the hole bigger, so they can sit more flush with bodywork.

Have you got a longer shot so we can get an idea of scale and positioning?

O, you should know that i'm years away from getting to this stage of build... i just sprayed up a bit of polyboard and cut 2 circles out. I have 3 small fibreglass scoops that i was going to put in line down one side of the bonnet, but i saw these...

Question. I'm putting the diff back together, do i use Blue hylomar where the output shaft seal plate attaches to diff casing?
Pics of the last rusty parts left on car and taking bearings off of the rear hubs. Also, 3mm steel for floorpans, held down using existing holes for bodywork?

More parts painted, bearings, nuts and bolts ordered. Also bought a very nice fog light and bonnet pull. More work to do over the bank holiday. I need some sheet steel for floorpans and bulkhead.

Nice bits and bobs indeed Gary. I went with the riveted white plastic letters on pressed black aluminium for the back, and 'stick on' white letters on a black background for the front.

This was an early trial fit of the back one (ended up not using the LED brake lights as they were too modern) -



I got my back plate from Chestnut Registrations (I found their web site a bit more user friendly than Framptons) and the front one was a fiver from a random seller on ebay -

Thanks T, did you know its nearly 3 years since i started this...
And the paint i used was military paint (lead Grey).

That makes me feel slightly better. I took delivery of my donor in May 2011 for what I thought was going to be an 18 month project. It could be another two years before I'm done, but who's counting? I've enjoyed every moment so far......just about.

I too collected my donor in May 2011 for what I thought was going to be a 6 month project. Took me two years, but like you say, who's counting?

Something else that i bought is... a light holder, as i will have a tin numberplate like the one shown.

Gary - You will have lots of nice touches on your car.

Just remember, very few people have managed a "quick" build.

Paul, I have lots of bits... Meanwhile I'm watching and learning.

Finished putting the diff back together with new bearings/seals/ bolts. Also put the leaf spring back together, new thrust buttons and bushes.





waiting for shims and spacers to arrive... rolling chassis within the month!
