The Hot Rod bodies were / are actually very good . Another example of budget options for home builders , It is worth noting though a finished car is only as good as its builder and their abilities.
But they kinda fail to mention it's twice the price of plywood....
I like the product. I don't know if it is stiff enough (flexing), but I like the idea of adding value to the car. Well, at least to some people it would.
Could plywood be the weakest chain in durability of the car? Could be, I'm not sure. Rust could also be a party pooper.
But I'm sure if you take a life cycle costing approach, the extra pounds will pay back. I guess it all comes back to the question how long your car has to last and if you want it to look good during that period or accept that it shows some detoriation (patina?) under way.
My biggest worry was always the floors. It wouldn't take too much moisture to get into the ply to start it rotting from the inside which would require almost a full rebuild to fix. I personally would spend the little extra and go for them as they will last far longer or better still I would go with full size steel floor pans which Ribble can sell if you are unable to fabricate your own.
I can't remember to be honest, I would guess at somewhere between 12 and 15. They were bloody strong, I tested this by putting it in place and jumping on it as hard as possible (I'm 15 stone) with no deformation at all but surprisingly light weight.

I also had concerns about wood and have banished it from my build, Ali and fibreglass sheet for me, the floors are 3mm Ali and very strong.

The current floors are 2mm sheet (or 3mm on request) so are between 14 and 11 Gauge (Talking about Gauges, I've always had a fondness for 16 gauge which is near enough 1/16" or 1.6mm. So easy to remember :biggrin)
Hello everybody peeps. I have emailed a chap who has many videos on you tube on home casting. He is exceptionally good at casting everything from toy cars to complete engine parts in Aluminium, in his shed. I have emailed to ask how much he would charge to cast some 50's /60's sports car font letters,( Sammio Spyder par example ). If you would like to see what he does type "home casting" into youtube and look for his name "myfordboy".
It is exceptional viewing, just be careful it is very addictive and will get you in trouble with the better arhhff as you will stop all other activities .( except building your car of course).Bon Chance.
I do like the cockpit and back end on this Alfa. Are they suicide doors? Anyone know if it's just a single, central seat or did it pioneer the McLaren F1 seating layout with three abreast?
