Good to see you are making progress. Sadly my white vitesse is turning a shade of green whilst I am stuck in diy mode.

Wow .... what a change. Just looked back at your first post. That chassis was in a pretty sorry state. Looking good now.
Keep at it.

But don't forget you are doing a very good job of it.

None of the parts you have already finished will need to be touched again for years.

I think when you start bolting it all back together it will look very good, very quickly.

Good luck, Paul .:)

Just more painting of parts that i had shotblast. Luckily I am able to work most Sundays now.

Looking good. It's all progress.

Gary,

just one small suggestion - paint around the edge of the disc as well - obviously not the braking surface - around the rim. This rusts up pretty quick and can spoil the 'just built' look!

Yes plenty of brake fluid!!! Keep it away from any paint tho.

Cheers Frog. I'm actually taking parts to bolt on to chassis... That's taken over2 years to get to that point.

Question about gearbox.
Haynes manual 3.16, this is the point I am at... But I can't tap anymore as the 1st gear touches inside of casing? So I cannot tilt the main shaft enough to take synchronise unit off 3.17. HELP!
4 Nov 2013, 1:30pm
hi have you dropped the layshaft? what are you trying to do?

good luck ikon246
4 Nov 2013, 2:11pm
Yep,done that. I'm rebuilding gearbox. So I am now trying to remove main shaft.
4 Nov 2013, 2:49pm
i think from memory the first motion shft stays in place......te mainsaft will just come out towards the rear in one lump less the first motionshaft.
then the fistmotion shaft can be removed..then the lay shaft and reverse gear and idler.............long time since i have done one.

hope that helps a bit
good luck.................looks good

With the lay gear dropped drive out the front bearing and input shaft. Then remove the small circlip on the back of the main shaft bearing and drive the main shaft forwards free of the bearing. Then drive the main shaft rear bearing backwards out of the box.(you need to remove either the speedo drive gear or if its an overdrive box remove the pump cam) Lift away the main shaft assembly from inside the box.

When dismantling the hubs on the main shaft make sure you note which way round they go and keep them all in order.

Photobucket only works at work, will add questions later...

wheres this circlip?

i want to shotblast casing, but will i upset things if i take the innards out?

and how do i get these bearings out?

And here are some bits on the chassis at last.

11 Nov 2013, 4:51pm
That is such a nice stage - clean items and new nuts and bolts. Set ratchets to tighten! Well done - keep going!
11 Nov 2013, 8:30pm
Thanks O' but can you see the problem with the gearbox etc... Help would be appreciated.
11 Nov 2013, 9:06pm
I must admit I couldn't face the internals of the box or the diff and I trusted them to Mike Papworth - the guru of Triumph drive trains. He's a great chap but it does require some open-wallet surgery.

Gary - Sorry I can't help with the gearbox question.

But the rolling chassis is starting to come together nicely.

Although it was always going to, given the restoration work you have done.

Good luck, Paul. :)
