So do I gut the oval recess for the licence plate?

Yes. I'm not sure that standard size oblong plates look good in a rounded space, though. Perhaps style it to incorporate a square plate, or an import spec' one?

Didn't the X Type have something similar that a mould could be taken from? They had a shaped plate, too.

I had a quick google but not much came up, but I like the shaped plate idea and im sure there was a model with an oval shaped number plate.

Food for thought.

The Rover 75 had a strange shape number plate.

Why not go the TVR route?

On my Griffith the rear numberplate let list through the numbers so you don't need any number plate lights, very neat way to instal. Also used on some old Rovers.
On the TVR you could unscrew the rear plate which revealed a hidden lock that would allow you to unlock the doors as they had no door locks, key fob only.

What about a rear spoiler just as the boot starts to curve and incorporate some thing like that rover 75 rear numberplate housing?

Can't you just order a normal number plate and cut to size

Does look nice. Front end gives a bit of emphasis on the shape on the bonnet leading to the headlights bit like the mk2.

I have seen this kit and I do love the almost cartoon styling.

The very round rump of the z300 is what attracted me to it but its also the thing that makes it hard to find suitable parts to style it.

For example F type jag rear end looks very curvy as does the Aston Vantage but when you view the rear from above you realise that they only feature a mild curve with squared off ends. Nothing like the compound curve I require.

I have a few ideas but finishing the front is my priorty.

Here I have mixed the round rear of the Z300 with some parts of the Panzani S type. I don´t know if it looks right ? (a little too wide) Well, It,s just one more idea.
I think the front end looks good.

I like quite a lot of that, maybe the number plate recess is too narrow and that's why it looks wide. The shape is hard to sketch

I did plan round rear lamps originally
But the design has changed a lot since then, still like them.
They remind me of my first Roadster



I guess there are quite a few elements that im carrying over subconsciously.
This is almost Roadster version 2.

I managed to get 40 minutes on the roof at the weekend.
With fresh eyes I trimmed the offending fibreglass and the roof sat down as it was intended.
I sat in and checked the new all round visibility and im happy to say with the huge glass roof panel its a much nicer place to be with roof up.

I still have fettling to do before I can bond the rear screen in and then lay up the outer glass layer.



It looks a little too curvaceous at the moment but should match up well when the body panels are complete.

Roadster - Nice work on the hard top.

You are certainly going to end up with more glass and less "metal" compared to an original Z3 hardtop.
( If that makes sense. )

Mocked up a variant of DSG's rear
Im not sure, I think I like it
Its a blend of the XK180/F concept and the Panzani.
The Panzani uses Alfa Mito rear lamps and for ease I've painted them in.

Whats your opinion?

I think it should look good.

This time replacing the round lamps for my chosen puma units and adding the hard top.

I prefer the Puma lights, it gives it the 'design' edge that circular units lack.

Need to shape the number plate though.

Any reason not to buy a big normal plate and trim to shaped with an angle grinder ?

I think you should go with something like lotus elise rear lights

No reason at all Nick - I do like the S type shape you suggested.

Danny - the elise lights are the same size as the fiat lamps I started with and they look too small.

Roadster - Based on the way your front end has evolved, I am sure the rear will look great which ever way you end up going.
