I agree - bringing the old lumps of metal back to near-new state and then adding new bolts, bushes and bearings is very rewarding. I like the red/black combination. Looking good.

ended up buying the 330lb - 1" lower springs... does this mean they add 100lb per 1" drop?

It means that a force of 330lb will compress the spring 1". So, if you had 230lb springs before, then an additional 100lb will be required to obtain the same 1" compression. Everything is approximate and although that sounds a lot, there are so many people on forums who have moved to the 330lb and say that they can't feel much difference!

New parts in the post are lovely. This build has introduced me to retail therapy.

Hi Gary, haven't done the swing spring thing myself although I accept that it's been a popular mod for some builders.

Before committing to buy that spring, I'd gather a bit more info and shop around some. A quick 'google' this morning threw up a new one that's cheaper than the ebay item -

I buy all my classic car bits (Triumph / MG) of Andy at Sports Car Supplies, they are spot on I have just bought a MGB GT off him last week, can't wait to home and actual see it.

Also if there is a problem or you need a kit he can normally advise of the exact bits you need.

The prices are always excellent, as it not sub-standard parts. I have looked on eBay some bit and the quality is just not there.

I made them out of ordinary PVC tube,50mm2 and 40mm2,the backlights are
from Landrover and fit in the tube with a "" plumbers rubber"",the indicators
are side indicators from a KIA with other fittings because it has to be 21watt
in Holland instead of the 5 watt bulbs...

I glued the tube in with the famous bonding paste but as you can see on the
photo one came out during the work at the back!
I've now "taped"it with polyester from behind and have to paint this spot again.

Wheels look very nice.

Funnily enough, my original plan was to use the Vitesse wheels with 175/80/13 tyres, whitewalls and dummy spinners.

I like the small hub caps best, but have you thought of sourcing some baby moon hub caps? They look great with painted wheels and fit the period. This lady has fitted them to her 356 and looks really pleased with the result -


Whatever must she look like driving that speedster though? Doesn't she know that sexy, open top fifties sports cars should only be driven by paunchy balding men aged over fifty?

It's taken a while a while to find the right styling and price... now, it isn't working but my next door neighbours brother restores Roberts Radios, so I am hoping he can work his magic on this. Maybe he can add an ipod connection! If not, I will just clean it.

Starting to get more free time... Hoorah! I'm fed up painting the house. I need to finish spraying the chassis before the cold weather comes. meanwhile i have started to strip gearbox and have more bits ready for shot-blasting. Like O' says i'm still restoring Vitesse.
