You are right to have an exhaust box, a straight through pipe is too loud and droney and will annoy you after a few miles.
I normally hate playing with exhausts as they are always rusty and a pig to weld up, however I'm looking forward to playing with the Z3. I'm going for a single pipe with twin outlets so that I can keep the spare wheel.
Looking on EBay there seems to be every diameter, bend and box you could ever wish for. If it all goes to plan I hope to fit it all for about £70.
One trick that used to be used on TVR Griffiths was to cut the bottom of the exhaust box open. This reveals the perforated tube and packing insie. You then cover the perforated tube with thin sheet steel and hold it in place with jubilee clips. The more perforations that are covered the louder the exhausts are. With a bit of trial and error you can "tune" the sound. You then simply place a plate over the hole, give it a s much of an overlap as possible and secure with stainless self tappers and exhaust sealant. So long as the box isn't rusty it is an easy job, I find that a 1mm cutting disc in an angle grinder gives a very clean cut.
Brilliant before/after advert for the stuff! Previously I've used G3 Turbo detailer but it's a bastard in sunlight/heat whereas no issues with the Poorboys stuff.
Unfortunatly didn't have that effect on my boot - needs a gentle mop - but it really is brilliant stuff. I may even do the whole thing, wash, Poorboys Natty Black and then finish with Black Hole. On the other hand....

Then when they have got the car clean you can clay it and start with the fancy liquids. For me Poor Boys Black Hole followed after an hour or so with Meguirs Ultimate Liquid Wax is shiny enough.
Having said that, Jeff at Hill Top Garage who posts on here mopped my car beautifully and finished it with something that smelt of shewing gum.

So my alloy tube turned up. One short length of 15mm outer, 14mm internal diameter and one 14mm outer 10mm inner diamter.
So we use the 15mm tube to sleeve the gearstick:
And the 14mm outer is inserted down to meet the top of the original stick half way down the larger tube.
You can see the inner and outer tube here - it's all interference fit and not going anywhere:
Finally M10 stud is bonded in right down to the top of the original stick so no gaps anywhere and all nice and snug:
This is the stud used for standard Ferrari black ball gear knob which I already have - just waiting on a nice chrome locking nut and bonder to go off then will fit tomorrow.
Gear knob on looks great after a bit of getting used to.
Took the car down to PB Polishers to look at sorting the bumpers out. Turns out what I'd been told are stretch marks in the metal are actually grinding marks. They weren't impressed by the finish!
So they're coming off the car tonight and being dropped down tomorrow to get them properly smooth and shiny.
That should be in time for it to go to Haywood and Scott to have the exhausts done at end of August.
After that I need to look at repainting the small bonnet panel and the passenger door - both rippley (and of course touching in the Stoneleigh rush mop burn throughs on 3 out of the 4 brake vents!)

Forums are for helping each other build better cars and sharing tips. If you cant do this, dont post.
On the positive side, looking at what Richard sold his car for in only a few days should mean that you can always sell yours on for hopefully a reasonable profit.
I actually think that Richard undersold his car, especially seeing what the DNA sold for. £19,995 would seem like a reachable figure. If I had the money for a real Ferrari I would buy it to give to my wife so that she wouldn't touch mine. Would be 20K very well spent!
Don't worry Richard, he is no longer your customer and I reckon everyone here is bored and disinterested in the arguments now.

Paul I second your thoughts, we often mention the kit car magazines are not very worried how accurate their articles are.
It seems to more to do with who purchases advertising space.

I thought that too .....I have a habit of putting loads of dots in my postings , Im not the only one who does it but I know its a habit I have adopted ....My puppets never did it , I was bright enough to 'try' and change the language , one of mine was properly thick with really bad spellings and foul language ...always looked like he was pissed when he commented !

I have private messaged Fishermart offering my apologies if I'm wrong , but explaining my thoughts if I'm right ...if hes a decent fellow and has been lurking through the Puppetgate events as he suggests , he'll understand everyone reservations and why his first posting on a brand new user account was reacted to in the way it was ... hopefully he can post something relevant or helpful in establishing himself outright and , like me , I'm sure any vocal doubters will apologise ..
The way I see it
Yes Smash has high standards but in all honesty im sure he would not entered into the contract without the reassurance that his high standards would be met
I have spoken to and I have heard the vendor, you can even see the magazine articles. Always at the forefront is the discussion of the highest standards sometimes at the detriment of other builders and even the manufacturer.
Money changed hands and the rest is history.
Its often been said that Chris doesn't need defending.
If this is true then Richard certainly doesn't need defending.
So if a lurker joins the forum just to air his anger with Smash .......
