Iv'e pretty much done what I can on the car now, will use it for a while and then when half decent weekend weather has finished will send for prepping and painting, so won't be expecting to post on the forum for a while.

Would love to go to Ferrari event at Beaulieu tomorrow just to see if I could get in past the entrance with it, but its the other side of the world for me, maybe next year....

VSCC race meeting at Snetterton (Norfolk) today. Great medium-scale event with lots of jaw dropping vintage race cars and the pits are fully open so you can really get amongst them. The classic car park is always well attended too and nobody gets snooty about home built homages to great marques. Not too far from MK either, once you've got past your thousand roundabouts...

Door mechanics work fine, door opening still issue, although MobileRobbie came up with a good suggestion.

Door gaps to front section still huge however car will be going to specialist who will resolve it all and prep/paint during start of Winter. Lets see how they get on!

I'd be interested to know if you've had any public reaction to the car when you've out?

I know I see a lot of "issues" with my build that others don't see.

No reaction that I have observed, however not really looking too much, a few nice comments from friends and neighbors, etc.

I am sure the finish will be great, lets see as its a few months away from that at the moment.

Yep you are right as currently can't adjust the headlights enough to get them set correctly.

Did you sort out the gaps between the front edge of the door and the back edge of the front wings ? I've been trying to remember which car was fitted with a clever hinge which first pulled the bonnet forward a little then lifted up. That style of hinge might work on the SWB. Got a feeling it was an old BMW 5 series ( the really boxy one ) but can't be sure.

Saabs have something similar too ..the old 99's and 900's ..

Nope gaps are still huge, it will go to garage at end on month for the people who know how to do it, to do it.

The problems not about having to have a gap for the bonnet to open, but to open the door to get in the car, without it rubbing/touching.

The problem with the bonnet is height alignment with the door panels, and opening it is impeded by the wheels unless they are turned, oh and not being able to fit the air con fan at the front, other than that it's fine!

Here are some photos of the car just gone off to paint. They are not finished or sanded but everything opens with clearance. We then spent a few days getting them as good as possible. I did not get any photos before it went finished as we were on the tightest of deadlines. Decided on Tour de France Blu in the end as it was closest to the colour of the hood.

Rear Adjustable suspension fitted and adjusted for correct ride height to rear. Also modified the inner wheel arch panels to fit and secured in place.

Defrosting

Hi all,

You may have noticed I went off air for a while, as my work contract came to an end but now I am back secured with another role so financially able to continue the build. Thanks to those on the forum who provided support an encouragement during that time, not that I wanted it widely known.

Any how all is good now and back on with the show.

Firstly I planned a visit to see Richard at Nubodi as he has done some excellent work with the Kali and I want him and his great team to prep an paint my car. I agreed to drive down and see Richard last week so he could see the car first hand and talk through some of the requirements, etc.

Before I drove down I needed to get the front 2 tyres changed as at full lock the 235/55/17 are just rubbing on the inner wheel arch. So got them swapped for 235/50/17 and they now don't touch and also have the added advantage of being able to lift the front bonnet section without turning the wheels to allow the arches to pass. This means I have now settled on my tyre choices, 235/55/17 on rear and 235/50/17 on front.

Whilst I was changing the tyres I took the liberty of getting the wheel alignment adjusted with the laser alignment system the tyre fitters had. The toe had to be adjusted on the front by about 1 degree but other than that the setup was fine. The chap had to get the oxi welding gas nozzle thingy out to uncease the adjustment bolts!

So with this all completed I drove the 1.5hr drive down to Nubodi, Milton Keynes to just beyond Reading.

Richard and his team had a good look around my car, we agreed a price for the work needed and now am awaiting a 'go' slot, hopefully I can be squeezed in in a few weeks time, however I know Richard is a busy chap currently, and rightly so.

It was great to meet Smash from the forum as well and see his car in progress, I took some pictures and will add them to the thread soon.

One interesting slightly off topic info was that on the web site howmanyareleft the z3 3.0 indicates only 126 were registered in the Uk. I have 1 and Richard said he knows of another 10. I didn't realise that we are converting from such a small pool of cars if anyone is looking to get a 3.0 then I don't think many will be around for long.
