A new project beckons, but what could it be that would entice me once again to spend hours in a dark unlit and unheated garage??

I wondered how long it would be before you cracked..... Kit car building can be adictive.
Perhaps this time I will beat you to the finish (12 months head start is always an advantage.) So - are you going to ask Madabout to start a new forum so we can follow progress?

I do have a friend who has a pilots licence but currently no plane. We have discussed me building him a light aircarft and he lent me some magazines, but no it's not a plane with three engines.
Dennis must have spotted me lurking in the Porsche Speedster Owners club at Stoneliegh or on Chesil's stand in the main hall. It is car I have seriously lusted after and have given some serious research and consideration. I think it's a very pretty cute car and quite practical. But no, it was rejected for being just a bit too slow and old Beetle chassis are either rotten or costly.
Will it need a new forum section? Well I doubt it, as according to the owners club, there are only 16 members with cars in the 'in-build' status and I know that at least 3 of these are moribund.
VW,s have a pretty serious following, especially Campervans. There are lots of companies who treat the chassis,s and bodywork for rust. Its a well proven route. As for engines there are some serious upgrades for VW based cars, so power units are there if you want a powerful beast.
But like you Peter I too love the look of the Chesil ( Porche 356 ) Speedster.
However, a plane could be built in a garage. I rebuilt my Minimax in mine after it had been crashed ( not by me ). So it can be done.

I had a look on the Royale site, and was quite surprised that this kit can be completed equally effectively in "period" style, or as a modern take. I really liked some of the more modern looking styles.

yes, there are some superb examples around. I'm collecting as many images as possible and plan to view some at shows before fixing on a particular style and colour scheme. ( Pauline tells me that it will be dictated by the red coloured hood but until I clean all the muck off it I won't know if it is usable).
The other big question is which engine and gearbox? The chassis is designed for Ford engines being a Sierra/Granada based car but I'm keen to see if a BMW engine will fit. I think an M30 might look good under the bonnet, but I have lots to do before finalising on the engine.

Malcolm Platts Nissan 280ZX straight 6 would look good under the bonnet - much more in keeping with the period look - and a very good engine by all accounts
