Mike Hughes Special Build.....

Really looking forward to seeing this one progress. You might want to wipe some of the dust off that V8 before fitting it though...

Great progress, that's beginning to take shape nicely. Won't the steering wheel be a little difficult to reach though?

Although I love the sound of my glorious straight six Mike's build has got me idly wondering about other possible engine options for an updated Herald (for my son when he's old enough) and I came across this site -

Although the V8's are impressive my favourite is definitely the '63 Spitfire with a Honda S2000 VTEC upgrade. Awesome dude.

Now, I wonder if a BMW 330D engine and box will fit the Herald chassis?

Just ask Mr morini, he kind of plays in a different ball park when if comes to slight engine upgrades....

I doubt it very much, or at least not without chassis mods that stray into IVA territory.

The trouble is the height of single or twin overhead cam engines and the bulk of their gearboxes compared to the old Triumph lump, which is really quite small!

I think I've just got enough clearance for the Mazda V6, but might need a blister (like those used for the front carb on the straight six) on each side to clear the cam covers. Clearance in the centre over the intakes should be no problem.

Very nice conversion Joe, I've always been a fan of the earlier shape spitfire with the low level front bumper. Lovely car. And welcome to the forum :peace:

Oh, had a bit of trouble accessing the link so here's one that should work (hopefully!) http://www.spitlist.info/

I don't know about Dakota, the bonnet scoop looks like the cockpit from a B52 Bomber, like it very neat bonnet shut lines and the three ovals

That's progressing rather nicely, it's going to look pretty different.

This is a very neat job.

Can I ask what filler you are using?

Cheers, Paul. :)
