I found out who made the exhaust for Terry Dutton's car (The one in the Madcap gallery with areo-screens, lots of chrome and the side exhaust)

It seems they are willing to make another. Is anyone else interested? At the moment I am trying to get a very approximate cost.

This is exactly the sort of look I want, as it's very much like the Aston Martin Ulsters I fell in love with at LeMans a couple of years back.

I guess it's also what Patrick wanted as well, But the exhaust fabricators let him down.

I'd be interest in a price, a side pipe would sort out me ground clearance issues.

I now have a ball park figure from the company that made the exhaust. It is £850 including the silencer. Not bad when you consider how much Marlin charge for their version. The only downside is that they would want the car for 4 weeks. I decided that I would like to get mine done but I am going to do it post SVA. That's not bad price wise, but 4 weeks seem a little excessive! I would defiantly query the performance issue regarding the collector pipe size. It's been so long since I saw it in person I don't remember, but it does look like the first pipe is larger than the other 5.

I probably spent a bit more than that with the BTB + pipes + boxes.

No, not a bad price considering... But then again, I've yet to turn her over yet, and have no means of getting it to Worcester and back. Probably a job for after she's on the road.

Still leaves me with the issue of getting an exhaust on her to turn over (I'm planning on using the old donor manifold and the down tubes for this. Stuff the silencer, the neigbourhood can just live with the noise for a couple of mins ) and get through the test.

If I'm going to spend the best part of a grand on an exhaust system, I only want to pay for it once... which leaves me with either the Marlin system or something like what you guys already have.

I really want side pipe(s) though.

Global Tube told me that it would be cheaper if they made more than one. Just something to whet your appetite guys....

As for getting the car there - I am thinking about buying a trailer. I am gonna need one for the SVA anyway as my nearest centre is over an hour away. By the time you rent one a couple of times it would be a big chunk of the cost of buying a (secondhand) one. And I am thinking about towing the Sportster behind my camper van - for summer hols and the like....

Going by the statement, yes as is any other exhaust exposed on the outside of the car!

I think your right for the new IVA.
Let's hope it gets scrapped!
Either that or you'll need fancy covers all the way down the exterior exhaust sections.

Easiest solution is a underslung exhaust for IVA test and fit your side pipes after. Perhaps you could all club together and purchase a IVA compliant exhaust for all you builders to use during the test.

Until then, side pipes are OK under the current SVA...

Apart from the large back box it should be possible to cut and shut a donor exhaust for IVA. Manifold, down pipes, first silence box and then a different rear box.

That's exactly what I did............


The tr6 s/s silencers cost me about £35!
(plus another £22 for SVA tail pipe covers :-( )

I have the donor's header, and the first section of the exhaust (down pipes). I don't have any of the mufflers / silencers anymore, so if I need to bodge together a temporary system I'll have to acquire some.

Reading around t'internet on the subject, the consensus seems to be that if you want side exhausts post IVA, you'll need some form of guards / covers along the length of the pipe.

You could probably do something with covers standing off the pipes themselves - probably with some heat resistant spacers.

It'd be nice to hear Marlin's view on this - and what plans they have to make the exhaust system IVA compliant, as no one is going to want to spend that much money for an non compliant exhaust.

I suppose technically my exhaust manifold, down pipe/x-pipe is "stock" E30, it takes the same path as the stock exhaust system
