A truly terrible kit! After having great fun test driving the demonstrator in 1999 I opted to purchase the full kit complete with the additional components that would be required to pass the goods SVA. I don’t think any of the parts I received actually fitted as they were supplied from the factory. Several calls to onyx followed with limited success in getting parts that would fit the car. It would seem that every single chassis was different and they had no idea who had what! A number of the brackets had to be thrown away and made from scratch. Not that they were up to much in the first place, most of them being constructed from angle iron. The front suspension and steering assembly fouled itself requiring modifications to be made to even get to a point where it might work at all! There seems to have been no quality control what so ever in the production of the kit. I abandoned the build late in 2000. It sat incomplete in my garage until February this year (2003) when a clear out of the garage was needed and prompted me to finish the build. Somehow I hope to be able to get the thing through the SVA so I can at least have some fun with it! |

The finished car is nothing like the original spec due to poor design. The steering and front end were running back to front which made handling very poor, as a result this had to be redesigned by ourselves. Also the front roll over bar was positioned directly in front of the drivers vision, so this had to be redesigned and replaced. Overall it was very poor build quality and the after care service we found to be appalling, it seemed once we handed over the money we were forgotten about. Also, in our opinion, if this car was just put together as instructed it would be a danger on the road, and, in the event of an accident the consequences would be unthinkable. |
