Just a couple questions re alarm and flaring coolant pipes
Got a couple of questions
1) In WKC they flare the plastic coolant pipes. Has anybody done this. Is it easy to do?
2) Has anybody thought about alarm/imbobilier system. If so which ones have you gone for. Might be easier to wire in while car is in bits.

John,
1) I havn't flared any pipes. I'll let you know if it leaks very soon! Personally I didn't see the need to flare the plastic pipes.
2) Your donor may have an alarm/immobiliser circuit...so you could use that...ask about this on saturday?

coolant pipes
Hi all,
If you look at manufacturers pipes they always have a lip at the end to prevent hoses popping off, I would be concerned not to have some way of securing hoses, I f you were unaware of losing water suddenly, engine failure soon follows.
I saw Doc Watsons method in which kit, I think he warmed the end up with a blow torch and knocked a cone in to form the flair. I have done it a different way and so far so good. I have used 10mm wide electricians tape and wrapped it around the pipe about 5mm in and created a lip about 2mm depth. With the hose slid on and secured it can't be budged. This was very easy to do and because the end of the pipe is the same diameter as before, fitting the hose is easy.

alarm/immobiliser
It depends on year and model of donor if immobilised or not, my donor 820 turbo 1993 is not immobilised.
I would suggest a transponder style immobiliser which removes the requirement to touch sockets or press buttons. I intend to do this to mine but I haven't tried sourcing one yet. I fitted one to my Sportster some years ago and it works really well.
good luck Brian

The 5AS box in a Rover that controls the alarm/ immobiliser, when wiring it into the loom for the Marlin, what should I do with the wires for the door switches and sensors?
Tape them up?
Earth them?

to show the alarm the doors closed put the door pin wires to +12v (PURPLE/RED OR PURPLE/WHITE I THINK OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD)
as for "sensors" what type do you mean?

So you feed the 5AS box a positive.
the sensors are the Ultra sonics

yes basicaly
Neg into the 5AS box = doors open
Positive into the 5AS = doors closed
as for the ultrasonics im unsure myself, iv not looked at removing them. i will make a few calls, but more then likely just cut the 2 core wires running to each sensor
